Basis behind this lesson:
I am a quilter for the pleasure of quilting. I want to instill this traditional
part of life in my students. I do a unit on quilting with my students every
year. These pages were designed as a guided lesson for the middle school
level focus. The lesson is to create a Mariner's Compass construction
with the emphasis on the mathematical concepts involved in the construction.
This lesson should only take one class period, with finishing touches assigned
as homework. See below for the mathematical terms. |
